Since the most beautiful plants I wanted to keep were the Japanese Acers, I started to consider which other Japanese-looking plants would look well.
Russel Page writes « In colder places, I would use Kurume Azaleas with their mounds of white, rose, scarlet and magenta. The Japanese have for centuries employed these low-growing, compact evergreens…» To provide shelter, enhance the curiosity to go down the steps and visit the garden, which will look bigger this way, I thought about a little tree that flowers early, with white flowers: the elegant Magnolia stellata. For the summer period, I will use the Knautia macedonica 'Melton Pastels', with lovely leaves and that since change flower colour so much is interesting for a long period of time and the Thalictrum aquilegifolium ‘Black Stockings', with its fluffy pink flowers and a long flowering period. Always for the summertime Lilies will be dotted around the garden. Around the red Acer I will use the strong combination the Cadogan Family's Head Gardener told me during an interview that works really well and it is much appreciated: Stachys bizantina as ground cover, Euphorbia x martinii ‘Ascot Rainbow’ and Geranium ‘Tanya Rendall’ that flowers from the beginning of spring till September, which will be also dotted around the garden. In this way, I will keep a Japanese, soft and modern look, with the same colours, pink, magenta and whites, carried on in the garden from early spring onwards. Comments are closed.
